When photographs are needed for a specific use by a publisher, designer,
graphic artist, or others in media related fields they either hire a
photographer to take the images they want or they find them in collections
of existing photographs. Finding a picture that will do the job in these
existing collections, or stocks, is usually faster and less expensive than
hiring a photographer to do the job. The stock photo collections are
created by agencies that receive photos from people that sell photos

If you want to sell photos online there are two areas to be concerned
with. One is preparation and the other is presentation. Preparation has to
do with what you need to do from a photographic standpoint before you

composed pictures that do not have clutter in the foreground or background
to distract from the subject. It is up to you to clean up your clutter
before you offer to sell photos online.
Two items that should not need to be mentioned but always come up are do
not offer pictures that contain copyrighted material such as company logos
or signs. And if you are using models you must have a release form
included with your submission.
When you sell photos online they are placed along with hundreds to
thousands of other pictures that photographers hope to sell. Your
potential buyer does not scroll through all of them but searches for key
descriptive words, provided by the seller, to get them into the subject
matter they are looking for. The more key words you can use to describe
your picture the better are your chances of having it seen. Be creative
